I AM

I AM…how many times have we used those 2 words to start a sentence? I am: SO HUNGRY, tired, bored, cranky, looking forward to…the important thing about these 2 words is they give the speaker an identity or characteristic.
This series will look at 4 of the “I AM” statements Jesus makes about himself…he made these I AM statements as a description of who God is…I AM (God and I) are the bread of life – I AM (God and I) are the light of the world…all these word pictures help us understand who God is and ultimately who we are.
Here’s something to think about and try to understand…I AM changes who I AM!!!
So we’re kicking off with what had to be Jesus’ boldest and most shocking statement…this from a guy they generally knew as the local carpenter referred to himself as the Way and the Truth and the Life! In week 2 what did he mean when he said he was the Bread of Life? Week three we will look at John 15 when he referred to himself as The Vine…and to conclude the series, Pam Clapshaw will focus on John 10 and clarify what Jesus meant by calling himself, The Gate and the Shepherd?
We hope you enjoy this series and can clearly see that Jesus identified and knew and declared that he and God were one.
Bless you all as we delve into Jesus the great I AM.

What's Your Story?

Stories are powerful; they have the ability to transport us from one place to another, the ability to give us a new set of eyes and a new perspective on the world around us. Whether it’s over a cup of coffee or around a campfire, everyone wants to be able to tell stories that people care about. It’s been said that our lives are stories that are being written every day. Some days we’re the hero and some days we’re the villain and although we have no control over the characters and scenes of the stories we’ve already lived what if from this day forward we we’re able to embrace a different narrative of hope and create meaning. In this series we’ll look at the book of Acts and hear stories lived out by ordinary people, people just like you and me. To those that gather together in church to learn more about the life of Jesus, the book of Acts has a beginning and an end but the story continues with us. It’s our chance to add pages and chapters and see our lives become a part of a story greater than our own.

No excuses

The series is called No Excuses because…so often we look down the future track projecting that’s where I want to be: professionally, personally, spiritually, financially, relationally…and every other way we see ourselves in the future…but sometimes when the road gets a little bit too difficult what do we do? We begin to make excuses…the mouth opens – the actions stop and we begin to give the reasons why we can’t take the next steps to reach that future…but I think we all know that EXCUSES ELIMINATE PROGRESS!
In the book of James he cries out shut up and get moving. It’s the no excuses book of the bible. It’s a strong, practical application book that says, if you want a certain kind of life in this area and this area and this area – then if you put certain things in action – quit talking about them and act upon them you will have the kind of life you want and it will be honouring to God!

One

I believe we have all been created by a loving God who wants us and knows us and wants to be in a vibrant, growing and loving relationship with us! Of course we aren’t perfect and can never fulfil all God calls us to do but through simple acts of obedience we can find ourselves ‘as one’ and ‘being one’ with God…

One, is a 2 part series where we’ll be looking at a loving God who wants us and knows us and wants us to be in a vibrant, growing and loving relationship with Him…and we’ll be looking at some practices to practice that can lead us into greater intimacy with our God…and that’s something we we’re created for and something he desires for us all.

A Clean Slate

When we step into a relationship with God we receive his grace and forgiveness…but it’s more than that and this is more than a Jan 1st verse. It’s more like an everyday verse because His mercies are new every morning through his great faithfulness towards us…and no matter how many times we fail he says let’s start again. I think that’s the key to this series and this year. There is no limit to how often we can start again with a fresh start. Whether it’s a diet or exercise or spending or an addiction or sin…God’s is so in love with you through your faith in Jesus Christ, that he allows us to start again without condemnation.
I love that God dwells in the business of giving a fresh beginning and a new start with a clean slate and how we need to have these clean slates in our lives so we can embrace and lean in to pursue the life God has created us and called us to live.
Happy New Year to you all and I hope you can make church from January 1st as we kick off this new series entitled, ‘A Clean Slate.’

It’s also the greatest story ever told yet we sometime manage to mess it up and replace the real for the fake! we’ve taken the Christmas story of the birth of Jesus Christ and somehow managed to cover it up with all the decorations and gifts and even Santa…how are people to know the truth from all the fake messages that we send? It is a great time of year…for family and for celebration and for gift giving, but the greatest gift was Jesus – to us – from God. We can’t afford to mess that story up and replace it with so much..well, fakeness! This Christmas lets look beyond the fake and see the real story of Christ at Christmas! Hope to see you on Sunday, 10am @ the Oatley Public School Hall! :)

Breakthrough

When we look at Joshua we can see so many similarities to our own lives…I think every one of us has been at that moment in life when we’ve had to take the next step up and that next step up will allow us to breakthrough to new territory; relationally, maybe spiritually, maybe financially. Joshua stepped up big time and God rewarded his faithfulness and trust. He broke through fear and doubts to be a great leader and still followed and trusted God every step of the way. Join us in Sept for a breakthrough…it might be just what you need! Riverside Christian Church meets every Sunday @ the Oatley Public School at 10am :)
